What is the status of my 2012 missouri property tax credit claim refund? The amount is $327.00.

  2. Kellie

I filed my 2013 NC taxes on Feb. 7th. It is now July 15th, and I have not received my refund! I’ve called Dept of Revenue several times, with no answers. The website continues to say “your return has not yet been processed.” Where do I get answers!?

    • admin

      Hi Kellie,

Since the “Where’s My Refund?” tool is not giving you an accurate answer, the next step would be to contact the IRS. Seeing that you’ve already done this, I suggest trying to contact your local IRS office. Once you have submitted your return, it is submitted to the IRS to be accepted so they would be the ones with the answers you are looking for. If contacting your local office does not help, try contacting the main IRS phone number again.

What date should I receive my state income tax return

    • admin

      Hi Randy,
It depends on the state- I would suggest checking out your state’s department of finance website. There, you will most likely be able to track your refund after answering a few questions. Best of luck!

  4. Flora Miller

My state refund was supposed go direct deposit around first week in March still haven’t received it yet

    • admin

      Hi Flora,

I can understand your frustration! The first step would be to use the links in the above article for your specific state. Once you are on the correct state’s website, you will be prompted to enter your information and submit. After submitting, you will be shown a status of your state return. You want to be sure to check this even after receiving an estimate direct deposit date just in case there was a change due to fraud or any other mistakes that can happen. If you still have questions after receiving your updated status, there will ALWAYS be a specific phone number to contact your state tax department. Seeing as it is post tax deadline mayhem, you should not have to wait on hold for an extended period of time.

I have filed my NJ 2014 state income tax in February 2015! I received a letter stating that they needed additional information and that my refund would be processed within 90 day of receiving the paperwork. I sent the paper work back by March 1st. It is now July and the inquiry site is still saying they have not approved a refund. When i call the state office they tell me i just have to wait. Is there anything that can be done to tell me whats going or give me any information?

    • admin

      Hi Amanda,

As with the IRS refund inquiry tool, the NJ application is updated daily with refund statuses. I suggest checking back each day until you see an update. I also recommend calling he NJ office again to inquire where your refund is and if it has at the very least been sent out yet. Seeing as that it is over 90 days in, they should have a status update for you. I understand this is frustrating but once your tax preparer has submitted your tax return, the ball is in your state office’s court.

Do I forfeit a refund from SC if I file 3 months late.. I have overpaid SC state tax.

    • admin

      Hi Bruce,

There is never a reason to forfeit a tax refund. You will not be penalized for filing late if you are owed a refund. In many cases, you are even still able to claim your refund.

  7. Judy

I have a friend that is moving to NJ from Wisconsin the first week of March 2016 who collects Social Security in Wisconsin. Can she get her income taxes done in NJ? Would she have to pay NJ State Taxes?

    • admin

      Hi Judy,

The state that you prepare your taxes in will not affect which state you owe taxes to. Your friend can get her taxes done by a tax preparer in New Jersey without owing taxes there.

  8. Mya greene

My ny state tax says my taxes are done being processed and i will recieve correspondence in 10 days about my refund does that mean i did not get approved

    • admin

      Hi Mya,

That does not necessarily mean you were not approved. You should expect to receive a correspondence letter in the mail. This will explain if they need further information from you or just how to proceed. You will be able to contact someone at that point if you need further explanation. It is more professional for the IRS or your state office to contact you via mail so that you are not providing any personal information over the phone.

  9. May

I e-filed my tax return online.they said it should take 7-10 days for you to get your return and 8 to 12 week if you mailed it in.but I did not mailed mine in.I filed it online.why do I have to wait up to 12 week?

    • admin

      Hi May,

That is correct. You will not need to wait the 8-12 weeks since you e-filed instead of mailing. It looks as though they were just giving you both options; 7-10 days if you e-filed (electronically) and 8-12 weeks if you paper-filed (by mail).

  10. Sheila D’Onofrio -Mayberry

My 2014 State Tax was filed 2-22-2015 efiled when please do you think I can expect my refund.
It is is $367.20 and at 68yrs old I could sure use it for food. Thank you for your time
    Sheila DOnofrio-Mayberry

    • admin

      Hi Sheila,

Although times can vary based on the complexity of your return, you can typically expect your prior year refunds within 6-8 weeks.

  11. Klee

I am late filing my 2013 NC state taxes, however I am due a refund. It has already been 8 weeks, when should I expect to receive my refund?

    • admin

      Hi Klee,

It is possible that your refund is delayed a bit since it is for a prior tax year. The typical time frame is 6-8 weeks.

  12. Tonya

My West Virginia state tax refund said it was issued on March 17th 2016 I had it direct deposited but it has not yet showed on my card does anyone know why ?

    • admin

      Hi Tonya,

Although the IRS has issued your refund via direct deposit already, your bank could need additional time to clear the deposit and make it available to you. You can give your bank a call directly if you still have not received the money in your account. They should be able to give you an approximate time frame.

  13. carrie/david sipes

When should I expect my Kansas income tax refund?

    • admin

      Hi Carrie and David,

You can check the status of your Kansas state refund HERE. If it has been over 6 weeks and you still have not received your refund, then I suggest giving the Kansas Department of Revenue a call at 785-368-8222.

  14. amy

i received my federal return on february 4 i filed 2 weeks prior in west virginia today is march 25,2016 i still havent received state return supposed to be direct deposit into bank account. tried calling twice they said there is no holds and check status almost daily on where my state refund site says has been accepted and being processed. how long can they keep it do they have a deadline

    • admin

      Hi Amy,

As you may already know, your state and federal returns are processed and approved of by different entities. Although the IRS tends to get their refunds to taxpayers within 21 days (if e-filed), the state doesn’t provide such a strict time line for themselves. It could take up to 8 weeks with regular processing time. If they require further information from you, it could take longer. However, they will reach out and update their status tool promptly as updates are available. If a substantial amount of time has passed, I do suggest contacting the state office again.

  15. sylvia

Hi i filed my new mexico taxes electronically on Feb 13, 2016. It did say to wait 6-8 weeks and is has now been 9 weeks. i tried checking online with the tool but said it couldn’t give me information at the time. Do you know how much longer it will take?

    • admin

      Hi Sylvia,

Unfortunately, there is no set time frame. The wait time is ‘suggested’ by the state or IRS. However, if you contact your state department, they may be able to look further into your return ETA since it has been an extended period of time.

  16. Tatia

    Hey,

I filed my federal and state on the first day. I received my federal within 14 days. I checked my state status and it said
Your return has been received and it is being processed. The processing time varies for each return.
You should receive your refund 8 to 12 weeks from today provided you do not owe any taxes for prior years or other state agencies.
It has been 12 weeks and I still haven’t received a refund and is still saying the same thing.

    • admin

      Hi Tatia,

Unfortunately, many states are taking extra precautions when processing returns and issuing refunds to protect against identity theft and any other forms of fraudulent activity. Since you have been checking with your state’s refund application and receiving the same update, I would suggest contacting your state’s revenue department directly. They will be able to do a bit more digging for you to see where exactly your return is in the filing process.

  17. Barry Denenberg

Can I still efile my 2015 North Dakota refund?

    • admin

      Hi Barry,

Yes you can! The last day to e-file a 2015 North Dakota state tax return for tax extension filers and late e-filers is October 17th, 2016.

  18. Ms. George

It’s been over 20 weeks since I filed e-filed and still haven’t received my state return. Can someone please explain this to me! I really need my money I worked hard for. Thanks

    • admin

      Hi Ms.George,

I strongly suggest contacting your state revenue department directly. You can find the phone number by clicking on your state’s link above. It shouldn’t take over 20 weeks to receive your refund so you’ll want to make sure that they haven’t been trying to reach you for additional information on your tax return.

  19. kelly

I filed in NJ electronically on the 18th of April – it is now July 19 and still no state refund! Status says “your tax return has been process; your refund has not yet been approved”. What are they waiting for? Every number I Try to call, I get “due to high call volume we cannot take your call”. Is there any way to get a live person at the Division of Taxation?? It is ridiculous!

    • admin

      Hi Kelly,

Unfortunately, there was a delay in refunds for NJ (as stated on their website). I would suggest visiting one of their NJ offices if you happen to live nearby to one. Here. you will be provided assistance in person by one of their representatives. You can find a list of their locations HERE. Otherwise, email may be a reliable option. For one, there may be less traffic compared to the phone lines. You’ll also have a paper trail for when you do eventually get in touch with someone.

  20. chad w

I filed my state taxes in mid July 2016 in state of Indiana by mail. Will it take longer to get my refund than if I filed before deadline or will it be quicker due to the fact they have less refunds at that time to process?

    • admin

      Hi Chad,

This will depend more on the complexity of your tax return. It typically takes up to 10 weeks to process an Indiana state tax return that was mailed in as opposed to electronically filing it.

  21. Bell

How long does it take for my check to arrive if its been mailed already ?

    • admin

      Hello Bell,

Each state varies according to the time-frame they take to process and deliver your refund. If you have already mailed your state return to your state department of revenue, we advise you to go to your state authority website to track your refund. You may refer back to the blog to locate your state department of revenue link and click on the “Refund Status” tool to check the status of your refund.

  22. Janna Ford

Is it possible to get your state refund if the Federal IRS audit your return?

    • admin

      Hello Janna,

It is possible to receive your state refund. However, if you are amending your federal return and your state department of revenue determines that it affects your state return, they can request for you to amend your state return to reflect these changes.

  23. Candace Johnson

Why is my state refund being sent by mail when i choose direct deposit… How long will i have to wait for the check

    • admin

      Hello Candace,

Prior year tax refunds are issued by check. Each state varies in the time-frame of when checks are delivered. We advise you to go to your state department of revenue website to track the status of your refund if it is a current year tax return. If it is a prior tax year, you will be required to contact your state department of revenue directly. You may refer back to this blog to locate your state link listed.

I am wondering why I have not received my iowa taxes I was told I would have it 21 days after iowa received it electronic

    • admin

You will need to check with Iowa State offices to ensure that they need additional time to process your return. If it is confirmed that they have set your return to be reviewed, you will need to wait patiently until they have finished processing your return.

  27. Fan

I e-filed my NJ state tax before April 18th, 2017, and still waiting for the refund on July 14th. My accountant called them and get no answer of why it is delayed. Their tracking website says that my “refund is approved of $0.0”, I still don’t know whether it is approved or rejected. This is very frustrated, anything I can do except waiting forever?

    • admin

It is best to contact a representative from your State authority department to obtain the updated status of your return.

  29. Tomikia B

I looked my state up and it’s saying your state refund was processed but they won’t issue it out until I get my federal first

Be sure to file a Federal tax return to the IRS and once you get your refund you can wait for your state refund or contact the state to inform them.

I filed by mail Feb 24 and it says no information. Can you tell me when i can expect my refund in Missouri?

    • admin

If this pertains to your 2017 tax return for the State of Missouri, it would be best to use their Where’s my refund tool on their website. Otherwise, you will need to contact them during their office hours to retrieve additional information.

  33. Stephanie

For the first time ever my MS state tax refund status is:
“We have received your taxes and it is being reviewed please allow up to 90 day for processing. If additional information is needed you will be contacted by mail.”

I was wondering what exactly does that mean? It has been 66 days and I have not received anything in the mail from them at this point.
